Bubble inspired decor, coconut curry salmon, my DIY IKEA dresser makeover, and more…

Lifestyle 101

Bubble-inspired decor is taking over and I’m not mad at it. We have some new trends happening like the checkered pattern, mushroom decor and now bubbles. It certainly adds some texture and a little lighthearted whimsy to any room. Let’s take a look at some of the places bubbles have found their groove.

These bubble candles are everywhere so I’m sure you’ve seen them and perhaps you already have one? These come in lots of color ways and are definitely on trend. You can shop them here.

These are bubbles I can admire. Dainty, playful and will work in almost any home. I love the unexpected whimsy and the dainty colored glass. Get yours here.

These darling bubble mugs will make your coffee taste better! No, just kidding but you’ll feel like a boss and everyone will know you’re trendy if you’re into that sort of thing! Find yours here.

Maybe not as bubbly as the previous selections but she’s worth a mention! You can see her here.

This is by far my favorite! How cute for plants, kitchen untensils, make-up brushes, the list goes on. Buy yours here.

Books Books Books

I have been powering through the books lately and it was hard just to choose one to share with you guys. This one is rumored to be Reese Witherspoon’s next Netflix series so I wanted to jump on the bandwagon just to be sure I’d read it before the series airs. It’s from the same author as Big Little Lies and I read it in just four days, which usually means it’s a good one! I did find the beginning to be a bit slow but I encourage you to power through and you won’t be able to put it down. Do you have those people in your life that you can share your reads with or share books with? Between my mom, Dave’s sister and my youngest sharing and loaning books means I can certainly be found with my nose in a book every chance I can get. What are you reading, right now?

TRUFF Hot Sauce

We recently tried these TRUFF hot sauces. I have been seeing them everywhere and wanted to see if they were worth the hype. So, Dave got these for Valentine’s day and they truly are worth it! All the hype was legit! The flavors are complex and it’s not just about the heat the flavor profile makes for a rich flavorful sauce. You can grab yours here.

Coconut Curry Salmon with Garlic Butter

I have been consistently falling head over heels for all recipes Half Baked Harvest and this one didn’t disappoint! It was a yummy dish that looks like it took longer than 30 minutes to prepare and plate. Perfect for weeknights or anytime you want a delicious Thai curry dish. You can find the recipe here!

DIY IKEA Dresser Refresh

I recently decided to update a former IKEA dresser that I have used in my offie space for years. It functions really well but I haven’t splurged yet on a full office makeover (also, I can’t fully decide what I want) so I did a small update to give some new life to this space and I’m pretty pleased with it!

What You Need:

  • Roll of removable wallpaper

  • Box knife

  • Flat Edge or wallpaper knife

  • Gold leaf paint for handles

Before

You can see inside the drawers and there is no forgiveness for a mess!

So, I unscrewed all the handles and set them aside. Cleaned all drawer fronts. Then I found this fun wallpaper from Joanna Gaines at Target and I was ready to go.

I just cut a rough section for each drawer then eyeballed the placement, (but measure if you don’t trust your eye), just make sure the centerline is consistent on each drawer if you have a pattern that runs throughout the wallpaper roll. Smoothing out any bubbles with a flat edge and use a sharp blade to trim the excess easily using the drawer edge.

Next, I used gold leaf and dabbed it on each handle getting an antique finish in gold, like the icing on the cake! Once they were dry I screwed them back to the door fronts.

Overall, I am happy with how it turned out and it may even hold me over on an office makeover for now.!
