My Favorite Places To Shop For Home Decor

There are so many elements you need for a successfully styled room. I thought I would highlight some of my favorite places to shop for home furnishings.

This week I thought we would start with accessories. I know they don’t actually DO anything but they bring so much joy. I like to think of them as jewelry or sparkle that gives your space that extra finishing touch. They add texture, dimension, and something unique, like an expression of yourself. If you are looking to add a little something to your space my favorites shopping list is below. As you may remember I’m crushing hard on House of Nomad right now…

Chia Pudding

Chia pudding, it's what's for breakfast! 💪

Did you know that chia seeds are rich in lignans which are plant chemicals that strongly protect against hormonal cancers like breast and prostate. They are full of omega-3's and also 40% fiber by weight making them one of the top sources of fiber in the world. My chia pudding is easy to make, gluten free and vegan and also delish! Really, it makes a great on the go breakfast, a midday snack and even a great desert! Plus, it makes 6 servings so you are pretty well set for the week.

The 70/30 Rule

Here’s another handy trick for getting your proportions right and balancing different styles within the same space. A guaranteed way to give a room character is to decorate about 70% of it in a particular style then complete the remaining 30% in a completely different style. So you can spice up a largely traditional scheme with a smattering of contemporary items, or vice versa.

Color Block Walls

Block painting walls with harmonious or contrasting colors can alter a room's sense of space and also give your scheme a fun twist. To get a crisp finish, always use masking or decorator's tape. Get an instant style fix by marking out geometric shapes and fill in the blanks with a variety of colors that reflect your personality.

4 Steps To Be More Organized At Home.

It’s helpful to be methodical in your approach to organizing. Follow these four steps to help you as you organize.

1. Take everything out.

Don’t skip this step! Using the example of cooking utensils, empty that drawer or canister completely. Wipe it clean while you have the chance.

2. Select your favorites.

Start with what you use, what you like, and what supports you now. Don’t get wrapped up in what used to work, or what might help in the future. What “sparks joy”? Set those items aside.

3. Express gratitude for what doesn’t make the cut.

If you have six wooden spoons and only choose three, keep those three and take a mindful moment of thanks for the others, setting them aside for donation.

4. Store, keeping easy access in mind.

Store like with like, returning the items you keep and displaying them in a way that makes them easy to access.

Thanks again for stopping by! xoxo
