It’s My Birthday Week…and a glimpse at our last event.

IMG_2526.jpg

It’s my BIRTHDAY week and we have been so busy here with events and house guests and it’s been so much fun but now I’m going to sit back and RELAX! This week I will highlight the last event we did and some of the reasons why we choose what we choose when planning a party, and after that I’m going to sit by the pool! So swing back by next week for your regular design inspo and recipes! Now on to the event….

Tablescapes

I LOVE a good tablescape, and love to find new ways to make a table come alive with textures and colors. For this table I purchased 12 hammered copper chargers and layered them over some woven seagrass placemats that I found at World Market. I love a white plate and used a three layer fold on the napkin. I tied in the low floral arrangement by using a large and low copper bowl and 12 small hammered copper water glasses. Some simple candle tapers and water pitchers completed this ensemble.

Floral

When creating a low container arrangement there are a few things to consider and a few items you will need to grab from your local craft store. I like to create low arrangements for tables where dining or conversation will take place. In this arrangement I used a floral foam block that holds water. I soak the brick until it floats and then place in the center of the bowl. I next use clear floral tape and create a grid across the top of the bowl. I start with the greens and arrange them from the center out, making sure that some trail out and some add height in the center. Then I add in the largest flower faces, in this case the sunflowers. From there I just keep turning the arrangement filling in with roses and more greens until it’s full and you can no longer see down into the bowl. Voilà, gorgeous!

The Napkin Fold

If you are looking for new ways to fold dinner napkins you can find lots of options on Pinterest. Here I did the fold (Summer Trifecta) and layered the utensils. I like to use some greenery and usually opt for rosemary or a eucalyptus sprig. This is a great way to incorporate a place tag as well.

Hand Chalked Signs

One of our specialties is hand chalked signs and we use them for most of our small parties. I love to greet the guests with something original and unexpected.

It’s In The Little Moments

We use small hand chalked signs as well to call out stations and to make the hostesses life easier like with this DIY Martini Station. I also like to use cake stands or other items that create differing height as it’s pleasing to the eye and creates interest. I love to throw in some plants like cacti to make it even more dimensional.

Glassware

If you don’t have the perfect glassware for your party you can consider renting them! I am IN LOVE with these Hepburn blush coupes and they looked so pretty on this wooden tray next to the martini bar.

Drink Stations

We did two martini options at this event. The traditional martini with all the garnishes, including several olive options, and a specialty version, The Pink Lemonade Martini with a lemon and raspberry garnish. I use the medium chalkboard signs to post the recipe and include all the tools needed to create whatever drink we have selected. This not only helps the hostess by relieving the bartending position but also lends to interaction and conversation starters for the guests.

The Details

Make sure to not overlook the details. All the tools necessary, easily in reach for guests to create. I love these beautiful spouted glass jars for simple syrups or in this case olive juice.

Stay Within A Theme

The jars we selected for the olives were labeled clearly (with my favorite labeler) and carry on with the theme and style we have already incorporated.

And Then There Was Cake

Obviously when you plan a birthday party you must have CAKE! I have two amazing bakeries here in the desert that I like to order from because not only do they taste amazing but you get some elevated options when it comes to cake design and even gluten free, and dairy free options.
