Trend Alert! Have you heard of the new trending design style called Japandi? It’s a beautiful thing for a take-over and I’m here for this one. Japandi is the new on trend style that blends Scandinavian hyyge (pronounced hyoo-guh) and Japanese minimalism in all the best ways possible. Incorporating modern edges with natural elements. The look is minimal, functional, warm, and calming, with touches of wabi-sabi enthused imperfection. I’m sure by now you know most of my designs and the things I lean heavily toward are natural colors that happen to mimic the surrounding where I live. I did a little Japandi board for you to get your design juices flowing. I will include the links to each item below. Good news is that I am currently building out my Amazon storefront so hopefully soon you’ll be able to easily shop my Amazon boards! :)

OWL (One Whole Life) 4 Day Reset

I don’t talk publicly much about my Hashimoto diagnosis, not because I don’t want to but just because nobody really wants hear about other people’s ailments, but just in case this could help you here we go.

Six years ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease. I had been feeling off for quite awhile and noticed skin changes, weight gain, loss of my period, joint pain, brain fog, hair loss, including eyebrows, and total exhaustion, I was only 46 so I wasn’t ready to feel like this yet. I was a home stager then and my work was very physical.

I saw a Seattle naturopath and my blood work was sort of shocking. My regular western medicine doctor did blood work too and said I was fine, clearly that wasn’t the case. Unmanaged Hashi can develop into scary things like MS and that was enough for me to follow her every instruction which included diet changes like no dairy, gluten, or soy. I had been vegan so that part didn’t really scare me, feeling better was my motivation. Fairly rapidly I began to look like myself again but if I don’t stay on target I can easily have flair ups like joint pain and brain fog.

How It Went & How It’s Going…

So Covid happened and like many of us we gained the Covid 8, and I started feeling off again. I had reached full remission prior to Covid so I wanted to get back on track.

Enter OWL. I loved this reset for so many reasons. It was nourishing and I felt full every day. Did I miss chewing food? ABSOLUTELY! It was only 4 days though and it wasn’t hard at all. You can order yours online or pickup in the Venice area. It came with three jars of bone broths, you can choose vegan, chicken or beef and three mylkshake packets. You purchase 1 plantain, 1 kubock squash and 2 beets to blend into your mylkshakes. I started on a Monday and the Sunday before I steamed and prepped my veggies. Each day I had bone broth and a mylkshake for each meal. The hardest part for me was to remember to drink water too, there was a lot of drinking involved. :) I lost 6 pounds but that wasn’t the goal, just an added benefit. The OWL cleanse is a nutritionally sound reset that is plant based and each ingredient specifically chosen for whole health and to help strip your body of heavy metals, toxins and reset the gut, because that’s where all true health starts. My skin looks amazing, like really, I had and still have lots of new energy, I actually forgot what that was like, and a flat tummy. The mylkshakes were vibrant in color and I heated mine like soup for lunch and dinner. I highly recommend this reset to anyone looking to cleanse their bodies in a nourishing way.

If you’d like to check them out you can find your OWL here.

Sweet Potato Toasts

This is my new favorite go-to! So pretty and so delicious! I used Kite Hill plant based ricotta but you can use traditional like the recipe calls for. You can also get creative and play around with ingredients that you have on hand. I added pepitas to mine because I like the crunch. This would be great as a side dish to a meat based meal or served with a salad and some steamed veggies. I also used two sweet potatoes and sliced and baked them and had some left over toasts that I dressed up for lunch the next day. Easy peasy and so good for you! Decadent, rich, full of flavor and pretty to boot! I’m telling you, try these! 🙌

Dave gave this one 5 ⭐️’s.

The Style Wheel

If you struggle with knowing what your style is you can pick up a copy of Styled, by Emily Henderson. She is one of the best in the business and she’s funny too. Styling for me is the best part of any design project and pulls a room together so quickly. You may have just what you need in your home already, it just needs some tweaking. Or, maybe you keep picking up pieces while your out shopping but when you get home you realize they don’t work together. Take Emily’s style quiz, it’s entertaining and you might save yourself some time trying to figure out how to pull it all together. there are no rules, really, it’s just a feeling.

“STYLISTS ARE LIKE KARAOKE SINGERS - THE LESS FORMAL TRAINING AND THE MORE GUTS THEY HAVE, THE BETTER.”

Organizing 101

Let’s See What It Takes

BEFORE

This family with three small kids in Seattle wanted to corral and organize several areas of their home. This example is from their kids playroom. We wanted to make it functional and try and add some aesthetics to the space to make it a little more inviting and a space the kids can get messy in. The goal for this room is a total remodel but for now the family didn’t want to wait to get organized while they wait for the kids to grow, so we took what we had and made it functional and when the kids are a bit older and they don’t have to worry about paint on the carpet the remodel can get underway.

With just some removable wallpaper and some organization systems in place it turned out well, and we donated so much!

In The Beginning

The start of any project can be a bit overwhelming as we empty all the cabinets and drawers, wipe them out and sort and pare down until we can’t see straight anymore. My lovely assistant Alexa in the eye of the hurricane.

The Details

We tried to use as many existing bins as possible, and grouping like items with like items.

AFTER

All the kids American Girls dolls are neatly tucked away and labelled. Don’t you love order?

So, the moral of the story is you don’t have to wait until every room in your home is just the way you want it to start getting organized! ✨
