It’s travel time, or at least it’s on the horizon and seeing friends and family again sounds dreamy. For many of us it’s been a year since we have hopped on a plane or seen loved one’s and getting back to life sounds awesome but also scary. I think I have gotten used to my work from home home life and since it’s pretty awesome here I don’t really ever want to leave it! But, the time is now. I am traveling to Seattle to do two organizing jobs at the end of the month and packing a suitcase has me a little giddy! I thought I’d share my list of things I like to travel with, the necessities and the extra fun stuff we all want!

The Covid Kit

I feel like we all must have made a version of this by now. This is my covid kit, I keep it in my handbag or my travel bag and it’s got all the goods.

  • Hand Sanitizer

  • Extra Face Masks

  • Lysol Wipes

I like mine in a Glossier zipper or a stylish pouch because a Ziploc doesn’t feel sexy and I also have an addiction to pretty pouches for all things.

Away Bigger Carry On

If you’ve been traveling with an old beast of a suitcase like I have then it’s time for a change. My Tumi set still looks great but it’s clunky and heavy. I’m sure that’s why I always have to pay the overweight bag charge! This Bigger Carry On by Away has an interior compression system and hidden laundry bag making it easy to pack all of your essentials. With a durable polycarbonate hard shell, and 360° spinner wheels that ensure a smooth ride, this suitcase is built to last. Plus, it has a removable battery that can charge your phone up to 4 times! It comes in multiple color ways too. Look at yours here.

Hydro Flask

If you don’t have a Hydro Flask you really don’t know what you’re missing. They come in a huge array of sizes and colors. This one is the 20 oz. wide mouth and my favorite one to travel with. I basically NEVER leave the house without mine. I upgraded my lid to the wide-mouth straw lid and love it. The Hydro Flask is made of stainless steel construction and BPA free, but if you think it’s just another water bottle you are sadly mistaken, these things keep your water ICY cold forevahhhh! Pick your color here.

Ray-ban Aviators

Don’t let the sun get in the way of your good time. The classic Ray-ban aviators look great on everyone and come in several different color ways. They come complete with UV protection that your cheap one’s don’t provide. Looking good never hurt anyone. Start looking good here.

Gigi Pip Hat

I cannot live without a hat on the airplane, you can nap under it, hide from people and if you fall asleep you can easily cover you bedhead with a stylish hat. Plus, you are definitely gonna want a hat wherever you end up. The Gigi Pip hats are the real deal, beautifully made and they come in so many varieties and colors, I have a hard time picking just one. Browse these beauties here.

Anker Portable Charger

Traveling without a portable charger? Looking for outlets on the plane, in the airport or awkwardly charging in an inconvenient public place? What about when your phone dies with every detail of where you’re going? Not to mention how you’re going to ignore those around you whilst scrolling on your phone if it’s dead. Worry no longer, do yourself a solid and get a portable charger like this one here.

Marshall Monitor || ANC Over Ear Bluetooth Headphones

Traveling without headphones? Good luck. From babies screaming to indistinct background chatter to unexpected turbulence, a quality pair of headphones has the ability to keep you at ease no matter how you’re getting around. Get yours here.

Pashmina

It’s like a scarf, a wrap and a blanket and I love to fly with one! Since the airlines no longer pass out blankets and we all get chilly, a pashmina is a great way to fight off the cold. It obviously looks like a winter piece but I have worn mine for chilly nights in Mexico with denim shorts and a light top. Everyone needs a pashmina. Here’s a link to one similar to mine.

W + P Carry On Cocktail

I love this clever idea! We are all ready to get a bit tipsy in the air and these nifty little kits can help you do it in style. DIY your next cocktail by asking your flight attendant for an airplane bottle or two and craft your own sky-high cocktail. W&P’s carry-on cocktail kits make bartending on a plane super easy by providing everything you need (minus the liquor) to make the perfect cocktail. These would also be fun for a destination wedding or bachelor/bachelorette party. They come in so many cocktail variations it’s insane. Add one to your carry-on here.

Rose Gold S Hooks

I love these pretty little hooks, you can use them anywhere in your home, but I bought mine to hang all my summer shorts. You can purchase here.

As you can see they hang my denim so I can easily see and grab exactly what I’m looking for and they sure look pretty doing it. They come in silver, rose gold and black and I feel like I’m shopping right in my own closet! 👸

Recipe Of The Week

My BBQ Chicken

This recipe is all the sticky yummy-ness you always wanted your bbq chicken to be, and it’s easy too. The key is the basting process and I’m sure why it gets rave reviews. Even though it’s bbq chicken this recipe is really baked. I also use bottled bbq sauce which cuts your time in half. I serve mine with coleslaw with an easy homemade dressing and baked beans, mac & cheese or corn on the cob. I also have used boneless and bone in with equally great results. Get some napkins this could be a messy one!

Create A Sunscreen Station or Basket

A Look At My Poolside Basket

We live where it’s HOT! Sunscreen is a daily thing around here even if we aren’t pooling it! We also have our fair share of guests and having sunscreens available and centrally located is a plus. Also because it’s a handled basket it can be taken to your lounge chair or back in the house when the winds kick up. I picked mine up at Home Goods. Here’s what’s in mine.

  • I have an array of Sun Bum products from body oils to face.

  • “The favorite” is Maui Babe and I always have one on hand. Plus, it smells like Hawaii. 🌴

  • A range of spray and sport sunscreens.

  • A leave in conditioner because you can’t forget to protect your locks.

  • A fly swatter because those bugs are ugggg.

  • An extra hand towel or two.

  • A spray bottle because who doesn’t want to be misted.

  • Bubble wands because life should be fun!

  • Supergoop’s Glow Screen face sunscreen.

Organizing Tip:

Make a project box for kids

When my kids were littles which doesn’t seem that long ago (but really it is), I would make project and activity boxes. There are many ways to do this and here are a few. Kids get bored quickly with too many options so I would cycle the toy box to keep it fresh and create medium bins with activities like puzzles, books, magnetic paper dolls, small cars, the list goes on. I took my handy labeler and put a day of the week on each box. I found when I assigned a day to each box it increased anticipation and excitement. When things got crazy or when they were too old to nap but mama still needed a minute I would pull down the bin. They would be so excited because they could anticipate the fun that wasn’t readily available on the daily . For long road trips I would do the same but with pencil boxes filled with goodies. For art supplies I purchased a rolling cart with drawers. Filled it with paper, markers, colored pencils, buttons, beads, macaroni, paint, glue and popsicle sticks. I’d roll out a plastic picnic tablecloth and let them go to town. This bought me lots of time to cook and clean! Ahh, the simple things that would light up their little faces! You too can create the same idea, make it fun and you’ll see how much time is really buys you!
