A Designer’s Fun, Mid-Century Makeover Of Her ‘90s Townhouse, my Queso Fundido recipe, + products and tips!

Liz Ride, associate designer of interior architecture practice at Studio Tate saw lots of potential in this 1990’s townhouse. She reconfigured the floor plan and infused her personal style into the home and she created a more functional and fun interior for her young family.
Liz and Rob bought the home with a vision to improve the functionality to suit their growing children Ravi (4) and Ottoline (2). The original townhouse was compact but filled with solid features such as expansive timber-framed glazing, hardwood floors, high ceilings, and a somewhat functional floor plan, plus the location was hard to resist.
They first reconfigured the floor plan. ‘We converted our single garage into a playroom, which also doubles as a guest room. We also reconfigured the kitchen to be centrally located, while maintaining its orientation to the living room and rear courtyard,’ says Liz.
‘While improving the functionality was paramount, we were also able to finally design a home that was a true reflection of us,’ she says ‘As lovers of mid-century design, we were inspired to create spaces that sat comfortably with our existing vintage furniture collection. Paired with vibrant colors and a few additional finds, we were able to incorporate a sense of fun into each space.’
Liz’s advice to other homeowner’s intimidated by color is consider shades that reflect your experiences. ‘Interestingly, in my experience, almost every client can be emboldened to embrace color when presented in a considered manner that is relevant to them,’ she says.
‘It was an opportunity to showcase my love for color and texture, and to share what is possible when embracing contrast and individuality,’ Liz says. ‘Overall, we have created a space that is an intelligent reflection of our evolving lifestyle and one that truly brings us joy.’
My Favorite Product This Week
L’ANGE SALT + SEA Texturizing Spray
I get all of my hair supplies at the beauty supply with a discount because my mama is a stylist. BUT, you know a product is good when you choose to pay full price! L’ANGE is having a summer sale so now is the time to try it, I just ordered and practically got two for one. This spray is my new favorite, I ran out this week and wondered why my hair was weird and this is the reason! It’s great for beachy air-dried hair or as a spray in before I blow dry. No crunchy mess, just lift. You can get yours here.
Recipe Of The Week
Queso Fundido Dip
This recipe is NOT vegan but it’s yummy! I make this often when clients ask for a taco bar or Mexican themed event. It’s easy and a crowd pleaser. I bake mine in my oven safe ceramic dish that sits on my All-Clad fondue pot because I like to keep it warm while my guests are diving in.

Styling Tip:
My Office Desk Styling Takes 5 Minutes
Tray styling is a really easy way to create little spots of joy in your space. I like to have pretty things all around me, did you notice that about me yet? This tray sits on the corner of my desk and because it looks thought out it creates a pause. All you need to create something similar is:
a decorative tray
a living or faux plant, I have two which I don’t normally recommend but it’s working here.
And the kind of office supplies you reach for regularly.
Organizing Tip:
Store and protect cherished memories
Thanks for coming back! xoxo
