Several Ways to Make Your Bedroom feel Like a Hotel, And A Good One.

You know the feeling, you’ve just checked in to a really great hotel and you cannot believe how cool your room is, you want to jump on the bed and take it all in. What is it that makes the room so great? Well, here are a few things that make that hotel room feel better than your bedroom at home and how you can remedy that.

Add a statement bed. Statement beds give the eye something interesting to look at immediately upon entry. They add a statement that most bedrooms don’t get, plus it helps break up that white boxy room. It also makes the most sense because it’s the biggest piece in the room and will take up the most space.

Add a statement wall in addition to the statement bed. Most hotels have both. The feature wall should draw your eye to the bed wall for high impact. This could be a batten board wall, wood slats, paint or wallpaper, just make sure your wallpaper is low on contrast so your eye knows where to go.

Symmetry is important. Symmetry doesn’t mean boring, it’s pleasing to the eye. Hotel rooms offer symmetry by using a balanced approach. Bed, two nightstands, two light fixtures or lamps and fewer visual surprises. Your eyes know what to expect, so use some color and texture to add interest.

Comfortable splurges. Hotels have three important things that are important if you want that hotel vibe. Sheets and bedding that are above average. A comfortable upholstered chair or seating, add a small seating area if you have the space, and of course a really great mattress. A good mattress changes your sleep and transports you to a whole new dimension.

Window treatments. Dress up your windows, not over the top but give them some sheers and layer in a blackout curtain, now your’e talking good sleep.

Leave it to the kids to introduce me to some fun summertime beverages that taste good and are good for your belly too! While in Seattle, my youngest daughter Amanda introduced me to these yummy drinks. They are low in sugar, less than 20 calories, infused with apple cider vinegar, which is great for your gut health but it’s also stealth like because you cannot taste it whatsoever. Lot’s of yummy flavors, mine was the Raspberry Rose. If you’d like to try one check your local grocer but if not you can order yours here.

Easy Oregon Blue Cheese Dip

I know I always say “this recipe is a favorite” but that’s because I only try to give you the one’s I truly believe are something special, and this one is just that. It’s easy and a great thing to bring to a party or gathering. We are having those again, right? Without fail I am always asked for the recipe, it’s pretty and tastes great served with sliced granny smith apples and crackers and a chilled glass of white wine. I often double the recipe if I’m serving it at a large gathering. I’m mostly dairy free but this one is worth the splurge!

Simple changes bring that same shelf to a modern and classy vibe, a bit relaxed but definitely not lazy.

All of these items (except the Mala beads) are from Target so they are budget friendly as well.

Organizational Tip:

Organize With Color

Whether you’re organizing your family room or home office use color to keep things organized. Assign each child a different colored container to keep his or her belongings in and keep them responsible for cleaning up after themselves. Organize projects, bills and other important papers by function and color in your home office. You can use colored markers or colored post it notes in each person’s color to keep the calendar organized by family member, this works great on a white board where things may change often. If your kids have moved on you can still use color, just use if for activity or event to give you a visual of what needs to be completed. I like to use color on my work schedule via my google calendar so I can visually see what things have coming up for the week. Whether you’re running an office or a family this system works for everyone. Get creative and be organized too.
